Cara Adams, an elderly woman caring for her husband who suffers from dementia, relies heavily on the services provided by Foothill Unity Center. “We’ve had all of our animals come here…I’ve been a member of the food pantry for quite a few years and I take advantage of everything they offer because we’re on social security,” she says. “My husband and I try to survive on social security so they really help me, especially with pets.”

Foothill Unity Center’s weekly groceries and veterinary services provided by their partnership with Pasadena Humane have been a lifeline for Cara and her husband. “The food bank has been elemental in helping me spread my food budget. They give me extra dog food and cat food,” she explains, highlighting the importance of these resources in their daily lives. Cara also shared how the money she saved from not needing to spend on groceries goes to paying for her electric bills.

Cara’s gratitude for Foothill Unity Center is profound. “It’s essential in the communities they serve. You’ve got to have a place where people can fall back on, otherwise, you’ll just skip through the cracks and that’s horrifying. That scares me the most.” The center not only supports her family but also provides a sense of security and hope in challenging times.
