In August, a San Gabriel Valley resident contacted Foothill Unity Center seeking rental assistance and housing resources. As a mother of two, guardian of two additional children, and expecting another child, she was temporarily unable to work due to pregnancy complications that left her medically homebound.
As a single-income household, her unexpected leave made it difficult to cover the previous month’s rent. With eviction looming and pressure from her landlord mounting, she turned to the Center for help. After hearing her story, Chardonnay, one of our caseworkers, was determined to do everything possible to help the family remain safely housed.
With the recent launch of the San Gabriel Valley program, SGV HOME, Chardonnay believed the family might qualify for assistance. As her first referral to the newly launched program, it was hard to say how long the process would take, and what the outcome would be.
Fortunately, the family was contacted within the critical timeframe and became one of the first families selected to receive assistance through SGV HOME. The resident expressed deep gratitude for the support, offering a powerful reminder of how timely assistance can make a difference when families face housing instability.
“This experience helped me recognize the meaningful impact of my work as a caseworker and reinforced how important Foothill Unity Center’s role is in the lives of the families we serve,” Chardonnay said.
